The State University of Mato Grosso do Sul (UEMS) has acquired an important piece of equipment to strengthen its research activities: a liquid nitrogen liquefier, recently approved in the MCTI/FINEP/FNDCT/CT-INFRA PROINFRA 2021 Public Call, with the project titled "Implementation of UEMS's First High-Resolution Scanning Electron Microscope," valued at R$ 203,595.00.
The equipment was acquired and installed at the Center for Studies in Natural Resources (CERNA) and is already operational to support studies that require cryogenic conditions.
Cutting-Edge Technology for Advanced Research
"The liquefier enables the production of liquid nitrogen at extremely low temperatures (-196°C), an essential resource for various research lines that require cryogenic conditions. The equipment allows both proper storage of biological samples and sensitive materials as well as controlled cooling of samples for specialized analyses," explains CERNA faculty member and researcher Prof. Dr. Sandro Lima.
This acquisition represents a qualitative leap in UEMS's research infrastructure, offering researchers access to fundamental structure for studies in areas such as biotechnology, materials science, nanotechnology, applied physics, environmental chemistry, and other disciplines that depend on ultra-low temperature conditions.
Collaborative Access and Partnerships
Sandro highlights the scientific collaborative use aspect of the liquefier. "The equipment is available not only to UEMS researchers, but also to collaborators from other Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and research organizations interested in developing projects that require this technology. This openness reinforces the university's commitment to scientific collaboration and regional research development," explains the UEMS/Dourados researcher.
The initiative demonstrates UEMS's commitment to investing in quality infrastructure, providing researchers with the necessary tools to develop excellent studies and contribute to scientific advancement in the state and country.
The CERNA/UEMS research group emphasizes that researchers interested in the liquid nitrogen produced should contact CERNA through email:[email protected]for scheduling and equipment use arrangements, as they argue that making this cutting-edge item available marks another important step in consolidating UEMS as a reference center for scientific and technological research in Mato Grosso do Sul.
